Fellowship
and Activities
|
We offer a wide
variety of activities and fellowship at our church (most are listed here).
We hope that you will find many ways to "fellowship" with us.
Advent Fair
Christmas
preparation and decoration of the sanctuary is sponsored by the Worship
Committee and the Christian Education Committee in late November or early
December. The Advent Fair has many activities for all ages including:
making ornaments, singing songs, learning about the symbols of Christmas,
decorating the sanctuary, contemporary worship service, and lunch.
Book Club
The Book Club
meets monthly to discuss a book, that has been selected by the group in
advance of the meeting. The group engages in a lively and informative
discussion of the book. When available, the author is asked to join the
group.
Conference
Church Camps
Many summer
camp opportunities are provided for children, youth, and adults through
the camping program of the California - Nevada Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church.
Epiphany
Celebration
Annual after
Christmas celebration (January 6th). Members bring old Christmas
trees and snacks to share. We gather outdoors to celebrate the coming
of Christ's light into the world by sharing prayers, songs, and starting
a grand bonfire with our trees. The celebration is for all ages and
will happen rain or shine.
Family Camp
Retreat
An "All Church
Camping Trip" usually held on a weekend in August at a PG & E campground
group site. It is for everyone who wants to "rough it" through tent
and trailer camping. There are potlucks, campfires, and worship on
Sunday morning.
Junior High
Youth Fellowship
Junior High
Youth Fellowship (grades 7 - 8) gather after Sunday service for lunch,
games, study, and service.
Lodestar
Retreat
A spirit filled
weekend for everyone to enjoy fellowship and growth. Lodestar is
a conference and retreat campground located 90 minutes from Elk Grove.
The rooms include all the comforts of home and meals are provided.
There are exciting programs, informative discussions, exhilarating nature
hikes, friendly campfires, and Sunday worship in the woods.

for you and no clean-up! All men are welcome.

adults of the church and community are very special to our church.

during the spring, summer, and fall months. Trips have included local
museums, tours or businesses, and other points of interest.

Church gather to exchange ornaments and celebrate the Advent Season.

of Families with Young Children
Throughout
the year families with young children meet for fellowship and educational
events. This is a great way to get to know other parents of young
children in the church.
Progressive

The Fellowship
Committee sponsors an annual progressive dinner. Adults meet at one
home for appetizers and then travel to member's homes in smaller groups
for salads and main courses. All are reunited at one home for dessert.
River Cats

Annual June
outing to the River Cats Baseball Game. A wonderful night of tailgate
parties and baseball at the River Cat Baseball Stadium. Children,
youth, and adults enjoy this great American tradition.
Senior High
Youth Fellowship
Senior High
Youth Fellowship (grades 9 - 12) gather after Sunday service for lunch,
games, study, and service.
Shrove (FAT)
Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday
is the "last meal"; the last opportunity to indulge before the Lenten fast.
For us at Elk Grove UMC, the pancake dinner is a symbolic activity, a ritual,
that gives us a chance to "let it all out"; to parade our desires, aspirations,
and dreams; to remind ourselves of the things we wish we could be or things
we wish we could eat..
Swim Party
and BBQ
A pool party/barbeque/potluck
is held each summer for the whole church family. It is a wonderful
way to meet new folks and catch up with old friends. Relax in the
spa, swim under the waterfall, play volleyball, sit and chat, and eat from
the wonderful array of food. A great way to spend the day for young
and old!
Thanksgiving
Potluck Dinner and Talent Show
A celebrative
Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner is followed by the Annual Fall Follies Talent
Show and Ice Cream Social. Talent Show and Ice Cream Social are fundraisers
for the T. R. Smedberg Scholarship Fund. Talent, young and old, new
and ancient, funny and serious are presented. All join in for a great
time with singing groups, lots of entertainment, and ice cream desserts.
Women's
Retreat
This is a
weekend of study, fellowship, prayer, and fun. All meals are cooked
for you and no clean-up! All women are welcome.
