Musical Theater Workshop
Sponsored by the Elk Grove United Methodist Church
June 28th – July 2nd & July 5th – July 9th
With Performances on Sunday, July 12th
Workshops in: make up, Costuming, Singing, Dancing, and Acting.
Cost is $50.00 for 1 child $35.00 for the 2nd (Scholarships are available - please see Mary Popish, Pastor Kathy or Pastor Neal). If transportation is a problem let us know!
For Ages: Graduated from 1st grade thru 6th grade.
No singing, dancing, or acting experience required. Just a desire to learn more about how a musical is put together and to gain some experience in ALL aspects of the theater.
Times: I believe all schools are out at this time so we will be able to meet from 9am to noon. If you need transportation for your youth let us know as we have Adults who will be picking up kids.

PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbias and Gays)
July 7 from 7 - 9 PM
PFLAG meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. PFLAG is a support group which promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons, their families and friends through Support, Education and Advocacy. The event is open to all members of the LGBT community, their families, friends and allies. There is no cost to attend. Child Care is available but a reservation must be made no later than 12 noon on the Monday two days prior to the meeting. Please send an email to Nikki Raney to reserve a spot for your child. Date Night / Night Out
July 9 from 6-10 PM
Date night/Night Out will meet June 18 from 6-10PM. Childcare will be available in the nursery so that you can enjoy an evening out with your significant other. We are requesting (but not requiring) a $10 donation per child with a max of $20/family to help cover the cost of childcare. We really hope that everyone who is interested will take advantage of this. Single Parents are also encouraged to benefit from this ministry and have a night out. If the cost is an issue please come anyway and contribute as you are able. Reservations for childcare is mandatory and needs to be made no later than the Tuesday before the event (July 6th) by calling or emailing Michelle Horner.
Media Madness Starts July 11
Not certain how you can be entertained this summer? Come find a book or movie at Media Madness starting July 11th.
Don’t know what to do with those overflowing books, movies and music? Donate your books, movies and music for Media Madness. Donations can be brought to Bartholomew Hall beginning Saturday, July 10, 2010.
Fun in the Sun
July 17 from 7AM - Noon
Join us Saturday, July 17th, for a joint project with Trustees &
Renovation Committee. We will be working on our landscaping, lawns, irrigation system, basketball hoop and labyrinth. To beat the heat, we will meet at 7:00am, eat with our Saturday Breakfast ministry, and work until Noon. Please bring gardening tools.
At Noon, you are invited to bring a picnic lunch and swim at Jean and Lyn Hawkins' home.
Reconciling Ministry Committee

The Reconciling Ministries Committee will meet on Monday, July 19th from 7 - 8:30 PM in the Fireside Room. All are welcome to join us as we work toward transforming our Church and world into the full expression of Christ’s inclusive love. Attention 2010 High School Graduates!
If you graduated from high school this year and are enrolling in college this
Fall, this is your opportunity to apply for a scholarship. The Tom E. Pilkington Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded to the graduating senior who has the highest GPA providing that it is 3.5 or higher.
If you meet this requirement and plan on going to college this fall, then pick
up an application from the church office. Also, please include a letter describing your college plans. If no applicants meet the GPA requirement, then we will award two $500.00 scholarships to the applicants with the next highest GPA. Applicant must be a high school graduate attending college in the Fall and must be affiliated with the Elk Grove UM church.
$ $ CALLING ALL SCHOLARS $ $
The EGUMC Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the Fall semester for the T.R. Smedberg/Barbara Evelyn Morse Scholarship. This is a great opportunity for getting some extra funding to pursue your educational goals. If you are going to a college or program of higher education, please pick up an application packet from the church office. You will need to fill out a questionnaire, submit letters of reference and a copy of your transcripts. It’s not a difficult process, but it takes a little time. Don’t delay! Any student in a higher education program who is a member of the UMC or who is a member of the UMC Youth Group in good standing, may apply.
COLLEGE STUDENTS !
Joe McIntire will be sponsoring a scholarship in memory of Rev. Dr. Linda Inlow. This scholarship is available for students who have completed at least one semester of college and are affiliated with the Elk Grove UMC. Copy of college transcript to-date will be needed.
(Applications for all 3 scholarships are available in the church office and also on the inside church office door bulletin board.)
Reconciling Ministry Movie Night
August 22 from 6 - 8 PM
Please join us for our next movie night, "Fish Out of Water". Inspired by the experience of coming out as a lesbian to her sorority sisters during her senior year at Vanderbilt, filmaker Ky Dickens explores the Biblical passages used to condemn homosexuality in this informative yet entertaining documentary.
Refreshments will be served from 6-7 PM. and the film will be shown from 7-8 PM followed by open discussion.

Neighborhood Breakfast
Every Saturday from 8 -10 AM

Elk Grove United Methodist Church is taking a magnificent step to help our community and neighbors in need. We are offering a warm breakfast every Saturday morning from 8-10 am. We are looking for volunteers to sign up for one Saturday a month to cook, clean or just help out. If you are unable to donate your time, we are seeking food donations of pancake mix, syrup or juice. And if you find yourself with a free Saturday morning, please join us to enjoy a meal and a conversation with your church neighbors. Please contact MaryAnn Blohm-Craig with any question!
