Make a Joyful Noise unto
the Lord
This familiar verse and similar variations can be found in at least six
different chapters of Psalms. Not once is it followed by, “but only if you have
perfect pitch and a beautiful voice.” If singing is something you enjoy, you are
encouraged to join the choir. Singing is even a great way to improve your
health! Scientists have researched the effects of group singing, and the results
show benefits to mood, stress levels, and even the immune system.
The Chancel Choir provides choral music for the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service. Junior
high youth through adults of all voice ranges and abilities are welcome. Our
rehearsals are fun as well as productive, and the ability to read music is not
required. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:30 – 8:30 and will resume September
4th in the sanctuary. Childcare is provided. For additional information, call
Kris S.
Calling all 6th -
9th graders
Confirmation will begin in October with a family Potluck. Confirmation is an
opportunity for 6th-9th graders to explore their faith journey more fully.
Topics covered include: The big three (God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit), mission
and Christian Service, prayer and spiritual formation, Christian and United
Methodist History, faith values and decision making, and what it means to be a
United Methodist Christian. In addition we have field trips to visit a Synagogue
(the roots of Christianity), a mission trip to San Francisco and a sneaker walk
with our missionary at Loaves and Fishes, and Youth will then have the
opportunity to make a decision about whether or not to affirm their faith and
become a member of EGUMC next spring. Confirmation will be lead by Pastor Kathy,
Terry P., Sid A. and Travis L. Letters will be sent to 6th grade youth and
7th-9th grade youth who haven't been in confirmation soon. Please help us out by
calling the church office and letting us know if you or your son or daughter is
in 6th grade or in 7th-9th and hasn't been in confirmation. For more
information, please talk with Pastor Kathy.

PARENTS OF TEENS
The next meeting will be September 14th in the Fireside room at Noon. Kathy will
lead us in a program called Picking Partners. The senior high youth covered this
discussion during Faith & Sexuality. This is the parents version and will give
us tools to talk to our kids about choosing their partner, what to look for and
what to look out for. Meet with us for a light lunch and great discussion. Please
RSVP to Beth H.
