The daily work of Elk Grove UMC continues only through the commitment of our church community.  We hope that all members will find a place in serving the church.

Organization of the United Methodist Church
The United Methodist Church (UMC) is an international church serving in the local community and throughout the world.  Members of the local church are informed about programs within the UMC and given opportunities to assist in the work of the larger church community.  The leadership of the UMC is organized into countries, conferences, districts, and the local church.  Elk Grove UMC is part of the California-Nevada Conference, and within that Conference, the Delta District.

Appointment of Pastors within the United Methodist Church
The United Methodist Church (UMC) appoints pastors each July for one year appointments under direction of the Bishop.  Pastors may be assigned to their current appointment or reassigned to appointments at new churches or special assignments such as to their own family care, education or study, or to work in the UMC or wider community.  All pastors of UMC are on some type of assignment at all times.  Lay Leaders are church members who have undergone special training to assist the pastor in care of the local church community.

Church Charge Conference
This is an annual church business meeting that is held with the District Superintendent.  The meeting is usually held in the Fall at our church.  It is an enthusiastic, vibrant, and fun meeting, which departs from the old boring type of yearly church meetings.  During this meeting, church committees are formed and members are voted on to the committees.

Our Current Committees and Teams:

Board of Trustees
Oversees, maintains, and supervises all Elk Grove United Methodist Church property.

Christian Education Ministry Team
Plans and coordinates opportunities for Christian education including: Sunday School, Bible study, and other educational events.

Church Council
Coordinates and oversees the administration and programs of Elk Grove United Methodist Church.  The Council is made up of elected church officers, committee chairs, and members-at-large.

Fellowship Ministry Team
Plans and implements opportunities for the church family to gather and have fun including:  a wide variety of social activities and Sunday Coffee Fellowship Time.

Finance Committee
Oversees the finances of the church.

Historical Committee
Maintains church history by preserving papers, photos, and memorabilia.

Lay Leadership Committee
Recruits and nominates volunteers for ministry positions.

Lodestar Retreat Committee
Assists in planning an "all church" retreat.

Membership Care Ministry Team
Coordinates programs that provide for congregational care including:  welcoming new members, tracking church attendance, organizing meals, etc.

Memorial Committee
Records and acknowledges all memorial gifts to the church.  The money is used in a way that creates a living remembrance of those who have died.

Men's Retreat Committee
Assists in planning annual men's retreat.

Older Adult Ministry Team (Elderberries)
Works to provide group opportunities that bring older adults together for activities and fellowship.

Renovation Steering Committee
Oversees the renovation from "Constructing a Dream...A Mission of Love" campaign to update and modernize the sanctuary including HVAC, elevator, landscaping and children's playground.

Scholarship Committee
Holds fund raisers to develop scholarships for church members undertaking study through higher education.

Staff Parish Relations Committee
Functions as Personnel Department by acting as liaison between Pastor, church staff, and the congregation.

Stewardship Ministry Team
Plans classes, annual stewardship campaign, and promotes stewardship understanding.

Vision Implementation Team
Implements the plans we have made to be a growing healthy church.

Women's Retreat Committee
Assists in planning annual women's retreat.

Worship Ministry Team
Works with Pastor in planning worship services, as well as, training volunteers for worship leadership.
