LGBT PRIDE 2011

God and Gays Film Festival

Over the summer months we will show special FREE films relating to Faith and LGBT people.  Each movie night starts at 6 PM and begins with free appetizers.

Saturday, June 18th from 6 to 9 PM
"For the BIBLE tells me so"

Does God really condemn homosexual relationships? Is the chasm separating Christianity from gays and lesbians too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate? These questions and more are answered in this award-winning documentary, which brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture and reveals that religious anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a misinterpretation of the Bible.

Sunday, July 17th from 6 to 9 PM (Two Short Films)
"Through my eyes"

Our culture is at war over homosexuality.  And our youth may be the causalities. Over two dozen young Christians agreed to share their private feelings, struggle, and experience. All of them have a personal stake in this issue. And all of them hoped that their stories would make a difference.

AND

"Our House"

Our House is a groundbreaking documentary that explores what it?s like to grow up with gay or lesbian parents.  Traveling to urban, rural and suburban communities in Arizona, Arkansas, New Jersey and New York, director Meema Spadola profiles the sons and daughters of five families who illustrate the racial, ethnic and religious diversity of America's gay and lesbian families.

Saturday, August 6th from 6 to 9 PM
Call me Malcolm

A documentary feature about a transgender seminary student, and his struggle with faith, love and gender identity.

OUT in Scripture
Bible Study Every Monday Evening

Tthe Reconciling Committee is hosting a weekly Monday night Bible Study. Each week we will read scripture using the Revised Common Lectionary (passages arranged by the church calendar). The group will then discuss the scriptures before reading thoughts from progressive faith leaders and scholars. The outline is provided by the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Religion and Faith program. The program is designed to have "An honest encounter between LGBT lives & the Bible". We incorporate songs and community prayer time. We meet from 6:30 - 8:00 PM with the first 30 minutes set aside as a brown bag meal time. Bring your dinner and enjoy social time before we study.
